Greetings! My name is Dominiq Jakab
… and I am embarking on a journey to explore the dynamic realm of cybersecurity within the IT domain.
With a solid technical foundation, I hold both a BSc and an MSc from the University Politehnica Timisoara, specifically from the Civil Engineering Faculty. During my MSc studies, I delved into a research project and completed my dissertation at the University of Coimbra in Portugal during a 5-month Erasmus+ mobility.
Previously, my professional journey led me to work as a structural engineer, specializing in the domain of special metallic structures, including towers for antennas and power transmission lines. In 2020, I started a PhD at the same university, focusing on the Resilience of Multi-Storey Steel Frames Subjected to Extreme Actions, a thesis encompassing seismic and robustness design.
In my current roles, I serve as:
- PhD student at UPT
- Research assistant at the Romanian Academy – Timisoara Branch in the Steel Structures Department
- Assistant professor at UPT within the Department of Steel Structures and Structural Mechanics.
My journey into cybersecurity began in 2022, initially in the automotive specialization due to emerging challenges with the rapid evolution of cars. Recognizing the importance of technology in our daily lives, I developed a keen interest in the broader field of cybersecurity. Drawing parallels between my expertise in structural engineering and the IT domain, I approach challenges with a mindset rooted in interdisciplinary knowledge.
To gain practical insights into industry challenges, I participated in the Automotive Cybersecurity Academy, an Erasmus+ project in collaboration with academic and industry partners. The experience was invaluable, sparking my enthusiasm for the field.
Recognizing the importance of a structured learning path, I embarked on a journey a year ago, propelled by a fervent desire to explore the intricacies of cybersecurity. It’s worth noting that my learning journey has been shaped by the invaluable guidance of my friend Ramon Nastase to which I am sincerely grateful, who provided a clear roadmap and essential courses on the teachbit.ro platform. While the direction was guided, the pursuit of knowledge has been a solitary venture, characterized by self-motivation and autodidactic exploration.
Starting from the fundamentals of computer science, including hardware, software, OS, servers, Cloud, Virtualization, programming, and web programming, I progressed through Linux and Python, Networking, Security concepts, and security tools and frameworks.
This comprehensive journey has not only honed my technical skills but has also cultivated a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles. I am now at a juncture where I am eager to translate this acquired knowledge into practical scenarios, contributing to real-world projects with enthusiasm and dedication.
I am excited to document and share my experiences through various projects, such as the one highlighted in the blog section, which involves scanning, information gathering, and both offensive and defensive tasks. My goal is to further share insights through small projects, which will be presented on my YouTube channel.
Thank you for considering my profile, keep an eye on my social networking platforms and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to your projects and initiatives in the field of cybersecurity.
